By-Law 1 states that:
"An owner or occupier of a lot must not create any noise on a lot or the common property likely to interfere with the peaceful enjoyment of the owner or occupier of another lot or of any person lawfully using common property."
By-Law 1 applies at all times, including when any renovations or other works are carried out in an apartment.
Other than works are to address a genuine emergency (e.g. to rectify a water leak or blocked drain that is causing water to enter an apartment), to help minimise the impact of noise during renovations or other works when they are carried out, please always ensure that:
- Work is only carried out between 7.30 am and 6 pm Monday to Friday, and between 9 am and 6 pm on a Saturday.
- No such work is carried out on a Sunday or Public Holiday
Please always keep in mind that noise must not be unreasonable at any time, even during the times outlined above. Noise in the day or evening that continues for too long, or is too loud might be unreasonable. Noise that disturbs neighbours throughout their living and recreation areas is likely to be a problem. All reasonable steps should be taken to reduce and control noise.
To further minimise disruption when renovations or other works are carried out, you must also ensure that all other relevant laws and by-laws (please refer to the Strata / by-laws menu above) are complied with. Large items must only be brought in and out of the building via the basement, and not via the ground floor entrances. All rubbish and other materials must be removed from the site after the work has been completed.
