Each lot is supplied with an analogue (copper) phone line. This line links back to a Main Distribution Frame (MDF) which is located in the Meter Room next to the hot water boiler area in the Saunders Street/Quarry Master Drive corner of the basement. Access to this room is restricted for security reasons. Therefore you or your technician should always book with our building manager prior to accessing this room. Our building manager is on a part time role and can be on site several hours each week during normal working hours. If you require after hour or emergency attending, there is a call out fee payable by you.
High speed Internet is available through a a fibre connection from the street to a 'distribution frame' in our building. Connections from the distribution frame use the same copper cable inside our building as the former ADSL provided by Telstra, so no re-wiring to your unit is normally required. Fibre services require a special modem/router which is normally provided when you sign up with a service provider.
Please be aware that we are in a very fortunate situation with TWO options for superfast broadband. The more well known is provided by NBN and can be purchased by a long list of ADSL retailers. You can view the list here. The second service (and arguably more competitive and reliable at the time of writing in Jan 2020) is provided by TPG with their FTTB service. Both NBN and TPG's FTTB service should provide excellent speeds even if your unit is furthest from the MDF in the basement.
Service providers should also be able to advise you as to the best options with regard to 'fixed-line phone services' (if you decide you would still like to have a phone service on a land line). Please keep in mind that you should contact any provider if you wish to rely on your fixed line connection for emergency calls and critical services (e.g. health & wellness monitoring).
